Knox County High School's Bus Café is now open.

The project was made possible due to the school district receiving the first electric bus in Missouri.

The school had to agree to take one of its diesel buses out of commission.

To help with funding of the project, the school had to destroy the diesel engine as well.

Since then, students from the business education and industrial technology classes have collaborated on this now completed project.

Through the skills the students learned from the project, the teachers believe they're more than capable to solve issues that may come up in the future.

"I'm hopeful that the students that have worked as contractors, per say, they will still get the opportunity to maybe fix a few things that might break or make some improvements here and there," said KCHS Business Education teacher Brandi Wriedt. "But, we found ways that students can still be involved maybe more so from the operations side and the management side."

The café is open from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. on school days.

It currently has a limited menu of coffee and specialty drinks.

Its hours will be extended once the menu is expanded.

The goal is to have the café open during football tailgates and other events in the future.
