Local church and business team up to provide coats during extreme winter weather
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
If you, or someone you know, is in need of some warm winter clothing, there's a place where you can get a coat, no questions asked.
For just about a year, a 'take one - leave one' type of service has been in place outside Take Root Cafe in Kirksville.
Employees there say anyone is welcome to pick up a coat if they need one.
The coat rack is always located in front of the store on 114 W. Harrison.
Anyone is also welcome to donate coats at the same location.
A local church partnered with the business to provide the service to the community.
"It's really had a lot of success. They [the church] are able to provide a lot of coats, and we leave it all winter, and we don't even bring it in at the end of the night so it's not even a time constraint," said Jared Scott, executive chef at Take Root. "All the time I see people come in and give coats."
Scott said the program has been great for the community and they look forward to continuing to provide it, especially during bitterly cold weather.
