Local church raises money for hurricane relief
OTTUMWA, IOWA —
The Willard Street United Methodist Church in Ottumwa held its annual party in the parking lot Sunday evening, but this time, it was to raise money for hurricane relief efforts.
The church and its volunteers provided hot dogs, cupcakes and chili for attendees all free of charge. Christian Education Director Debbie Bratten says the only request is people make a free-will donation.
“It’s just been a wonderful outpouring of love and community in the church to provide all this so that we can all put money in that jar for the relief fund, and it’s a good meal too."
Bratten says all the proceeds will be given to the United Methodist Committee on Relief, who will split the donations between Florida and Texas.
