KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Big changes are coming to the two Pizza Hut locations in Kirksville.
The North Baltimore Street restaurant is closing its doors on the evening of Monday, February 18, 2019.
Melody Hagar, the general manager of that store, told KTVO the north store will be torn down, and a new Pizza Hut will be built in its place.
Hagar said while construction is underway, the South Baltimore store will remain open.
Once the new north store is finished, she said the south location will be closed and the building sold. That contradicts what a corporate spokeswoman told KTVO. In a statement, Renee Standiford, marketing director for Tetra Management Company in Wichita, Kansas, said the south restaurant will continue to serve its customers as usual with dine in, carryout and delivery.
Construction on the new Pizza Hut is expected to take approximately four months from start to finish.
It will open sometime this summer, although an exact date is not know at this time.
Hagar said there will be no pizza buffet or salad bar offered at the new location.
The focus will be mainly on carry-out and delivery.
The new restaurant will seat 32 people. The current north Pizza Hut seats 97.
Both Pizza Hut locations in Kirksville have been around for approximately 50 years.
Tetra Management Company acquired the restaurants in September 2018.
Standiford told KTVO the new facility is a brand-new, modernized design with a smaller dine-in area that has proven very successful in other cities.
She said Pizza Hut in Kirksville will offer some new products and an express lunch option for diners.
Below is the statement Standiford sent to KTVO:
This will be the fourth reimaged restaurant within the Tetra Management Company restaurants using this Fast Casual Dining design plan. It has been well received in the other markets where we have introduced, and we are excited to bring it to Kirksville.
We will rebuild and reintroduce Pizza Hut to better serve the Kirksville community. A fresh, modern look with bold graphics will be a part of the interior and exterior and the design will cater to delivery and carryout orders while featuring a slightly smaller dine-in area.
New menu items will be introduced, such as salads, wings and express lunch specials featuring 9” pizzas, plus we will have all the ingredients to cook up current Pizza Hut favorites.
The South Baltimore restaurant will be open for business during construction for customers from the North Baltimore restaurant to visit for Dine-in or Carryout occasions. The South restaurant will continue to serve its customers as usual with dine in, carryout and delivery.
