On Friday, Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway released an annual audit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

During the fiscal year of 2017, which ended June 30, Galloway found the MSHP in compliance with the constitutionally mandated use of highway funds.

The report said the MSHP spent approximately $224 million of its appropriations.

These appropriations come from the State Highways and Transportation Fund which pays 71 percent of the MSHP budget.

The use of these dollars for the MSHP is limited by the Missouri Constitution to "administering and enforcing state motor vehicle laws and traffic regulations."

The rest of the fund pays for highway, road and bridge maintenance.
