Mo-DOT suggests safe driving during holiday season

The Christmas season is fast approaching, and soon, thousands will hit the road to spend time with loved ones.

As you're packing up the car, The Missouri Department of Transportation will be working to keep you from becoming a statistic this holiday.

Mo-DOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough is asking motorists to put down the phone, limit distractions and buckle up.

She says distracted driving is one of the top reasons drivers become involved in traffic crashes.

"Being under the influence is another causation, so I just really ask that motorists buckle up, put the phones down and to make sure that they have a designated driver if they are out enjoying themselves during the holiday season because the most important thing is we want every single person to make it home safe throughout the holiday season and each and every day."

If driving this holiday, motorists are also encouraged to pay attention to weather.
