La Plata house fire labeled 'suspicious'

UPDATE: Local firefighters are calling a house fire in La Plata "suspicious."

Captain Cameron East with La Plata Fire and Rescue told KTVO firefighters were called to 116 West Sanders Street just before 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The house was fully engulfed when crews got there.

The home is a rental property owned by Roger Crawford of Union Iowa, formerly from La Plata. East told us the house was vacant at the time. The previous tenants moved out about a month ago.

An investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was on the scene for about three hours Tuesday morning looking into the cause.

Fire departments from Atlanta, Adair County and Kirksville helped battle the blaze.

No one was injured during the incident.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on Sanders Street before 6 a.m. The house was reportedly vacant, and no one was inside at the time.

Investigators were still looking into the cause of the fire Tuesday morning.
