Motorcycle vs deer collision seriously injures NEMO man, kills passenger

Phillip Long, 74, of Bevier was seriously injured in the crash. Shelia Long, 75, also of Bevier was killed in the motorcycle crash Thursday night.

A motorcycle collision with a deer seriously injured the driver and killed his passenger.

The deadly crash happened at 8:40 p.m. Thursday in Macon County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Phillip Long, 74, of Bevier, Missouri, was on Route C just south of Bevier city limits, when he struck a deer in the roadway.

Both Long and his wife, Sheila Long, 75, also of Bevier, were thrown off the motorcycle.

According to troopers, Sheila Long was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Samaritan Hospital in Macon.

Phillip Long was taken to University Hospital in Columbia in serious condition.

According to the crash report, both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The motorcycle ran off the side of the road and struck a fence after the Longs were ejected from the motorcycle.
