Kirksville police are investigating a bizarre Tuesday night home invasion.

It happened shortly after 9 p.m. on East Scott Street near the Truman State University campus.

The victim is a graduate student at Truman. She told KTVO that because the weather was so nice and warm on Tuesday, she had her doors open and had spent time on both her front and back porches.

The young woman said she was on her front porch around 9 p.m. and had just finished Facetiming with her mom when she heard a strange sniffing noise in her front yard.

She said she looked over and there was a naked man wearing only a homemade face mask that appeared to be made out of a sky blue T-shirt.

The victim said the masked man then took off running toward her backyard.

She ran inside to close an inner door that led to the back of the home and called 911. About that time, she heard the intruder on her back steps, and he pushed open a door and made his way inside.

The woman ran through the house and out onto her front porch and fell down. That is when the suspect caught up to her.

She was screaming for help, and he stretched out his arms toward her. The victim said she got into the fetal position on the porch and continued screaming.

That is when the suspect squatted down and tried to pick her up. The commotion brought a few neighbors outside to see what was going on.

When the man heard the neighbors outside, he took off running.

A couple of Kirksville police officers arrived a few minutes later. They took the victim's statement and dusted for fingerprints on a door frame.

The woman described the intruder as a white male in his early to mid-20s, approximately 5'6" tall, weighing 150 to 160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

The student was not injured during the incident.

Police officers told the victim the investigation is ongoing, and they have some leads to follow up on. They indicated that other officers possibly had the suspect in custody.
