NEMO farmer drives tractor, baler into pond
NEAR MILLARD, Mo. — A northeast Missouri farmer is lucky to be alive after a freak accident while baling hay Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at about 4:45 p.m.
It happened at the John Moore residence on Adair County Route KK east of Millard.
Emergency crews told KTVO a man was baling hay when he experienced a medical episode and drove the tractor and large hay baler he was operating into a pond.
A neighbor identified the man as Benny Murphy of rural Kirksville.
Rescuers said by the time they got there, Murphy was out of the water.
It was reported that he had lost consciousness for a short time.
The tractor and baler remained in the pond following the scary incident.
Murphy refused medical treatment at the scene and was not transported by ambulance.
