A northeast Missouri woman is dead after being run over by a golf cart on her family's Knox County farm.

The victim is identified as Debbie Roush, 56, of Knox City.

Knox County Sheriff Robert Becker told KTVO Roush's husband found his wife pinned under the golf cart around 4 p.m. Wednesday about a half-block from the couple's home outside Knox City.

He said the golf cart had not overturned.

Investigators said Roush had driven the golf cart to a burn pile a short distance from their home so she could burn trash.

Somehow the golf cart rolled over Roush and trapped her under it. No one is exactly sure how the accident happened.

The sheriff's office said by the time deputies got to the scene, Roush's husband had used a 4-wheeler to pull the golf cart off of his wife.

Becker said when his deputies arrived, Roush was not breathing and did not have a pulse, but they tried lifesaving measures.

Roush was pronounced dead at the scene.

A funeral service for Debbie Roush is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. next Wednesday at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
