New four-way intersection coming to Kirksville
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
Attention motorists: The City of Kirksville will soon have a new four-way intersection.
New stop signs will be placed at the intersection of Franklin and Illinois streets, near the Kirksville Fire Department.
Currently, Franklin is a through street in that area.
Right now, Illinois Street has stop signs on each side of Franklin for drivers pulling onto or crossing Illinois.
The fire department is located at the northwest corner of the intersection.
According to city documents, the department has had difficulty returning trucks to the station due to traffic flow.
The idea behind the four-way stop is to slow the turning traffic coming off of Franklin onto Illinois.
City staffers say the new four-way stop signs will also help firefighters travel safely through the intersection when responding to calls.
The Kirksville City Council approved the establishment of the new four-way intersection on November 20.
The change to the intersection is slated to be made in the coming weeks.
