New trial date for Oskaloosa mom whose murder conviction was overturned
OSKALOOSA, Iowa —
An Oskaloosa, Iowa, woman who had her murder conviction overturned now has a new trial date.
The second trial of Alicia Ritenour is set to begin on March 5.
She was accused of the January 2014 death of her 17-month old daughter Ava.
An autopsy found Ava died of head trauma in the family's apartment.
Ritenour was convicted later that year of First-Degree Murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Last month, a judge set aside the First-Degree Murder conviction of 25-year-old Ritenour, agreeing with her arguments that her trial attorney had been ineffective.
She remains in custody on a $500,000 bond.
