KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The City of Kirksville is hoping to increase the number of recreational trails found in the area.
Monday night, Kirksville City Council members approved a grant application that would be used to construct a paved multi-use trail at the North Park Complex.
The grant is through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program.
This project has been discussed a number of times by city staffers, and is part of the long term capital plan for the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department.
If the grant is awarded, trail construction work would begin in late 2020.
North Park currently boasts two lighted 300 foot softball fields, a lighted regulation baseball field, two 300 foot softball fields, a 270 foot softball field and two pee wee fields.
In addition, the Kirksville Skate Park at North Park, was completed and opened in 2009.
