Northeast Missouri man now faces murder charge following death of toddler


    Marcus Mays, who was arrested in August after a child abuse investigation, now faces four charges: Abuse and Neglect of a Child, Murder in the 2nd degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

    A Northeast Missouri man in jail facing child endangerment charges is now facing new charges.

    Marcus Mays, 34, of LaGrange, Missouri, appeared at his preliminary hearing on Tuesday in Lewis County.

    Mays, who was arrested in August after a child abuse investigation, now faces four charges: Abuse and Neglect of a Child, Murder in the 2nd degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

    He was arrested after the investigation involving a 2-year-old who was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries.

    The child died three days later.

    Mays' next court appearance is scheduled in front of Judge Russell Steele in Lewis County on December 6 at 9 a.m.
