Daughter charged in DWI crash that killed her father

UPDATE: Rebekah "Becky" Smith, 45, of Ethel, Mo., has now been formally charged with DWI Causing the Death of Another in connection with a Thursday evening crash that killed her father, Gail Allard, 71, also of Ethel.

Smith was released from the Macon County Jail late Friday afternoon after posting 10-percent of her $10,000 bond.

UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed for KTVO that Rebekah Smith, 45, of Ethel, Mo., is the daughter of the victim killed in Thursday evening's crash.

Gail Allard, 71, also of Ethel, was a passenger in the pickup truck driven by Smith. He was partially ejected when the truck crashed and overturned onto the driver's side.

Allard was later pronounced dead at Samaritan Hospital in Macon.

According to online arrest records, the driver of the vehicle, Rebekah Smith, has been arrested and jailed on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and causing the death of another. Formal charges are pending in Macon County court.


A single-vehicle crash kills a northeast Missouri man Thursday night in Macon County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 7 p.m. on Route 149, 3.5 miles north of New Cambria.

Rebekah Smith, 45, of Ethel, Mo., was driving when she crossed the center line, over-corrected causing her to travel off the right side of the road.

Smith struck a fence, and the vehicle overturned onto its driver’s side, partially ejecting her passenger.

Smith’s passenger, Gail Allard, 71, also of Ethel was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Smith received minor injuries in the crash and refused treatment.

According to the crash report, Smith was wearing a seat belt but Allard was not.
