OFD annouces Sparky Claus results
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
The Ottumwa Fire Department finally have their results in from their annual Sparky Claus fundraiser.
Since 2011, the fire department has been helping Sieda and the Salvation Army of Ottumwa collect toys for this fundraiser. Josh Chance, the Master Firefighter, told KTVO that they helped 950 individuals in Wapello County, and donated 123 coats to the underage children in the Ottumwa School district. Chance described that the fire team is feeling ecstatic about helping those in need.
"We we're so ecstatic. The people of Wapello County really stepped up and donated this year for us. Without the individuals donating money, toys, none of this would be possible. As the fire department we're just the middle man trying to help the people in need," said Chance
The fire department branched out to many local organizations. The fire department also worked with the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce with a jingle jog this year. The jingle jog was a chance for people to run through nights and lights with a fee of a toy that went to the Sparky Claus fundraiser.
"This year it seemed like we were able to help more families than ever. There was a bigger need plus we were able to help with shop with a cop, which is kind of a new thing that we helped with this year. They had a need and we had a few toys come in after our deadline so they were able to get them to the families in need," said Chance.
Monetary donations can be sent to the Ottumwa Fire Department for the annual 2019 Sparky Claus fundraiser.
