UPDATE: Driver killed in crash near Hedrick


    The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday on Highway 149, east of Highway 21 near Hedrick.

    One person has died following a Thursday morning head-on collision near Hedrick, Iowa.

    The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Highway 149, east of Highway 21 near Hedrick.

    According to the Iowa State Patrol's online crash report, a Buic was traveling east on Highway 149 when it crossed into the path of an oncoming Dodge pickup truck.

    Troopers say one of the drivers received minor injuries. The second driver involved was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, where he or she later died. Their names, ages and hometowns are not being released until family members have been notified.

    The crash report does not indicate which vehicle either person was driving.

    The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

    Lt. Troy Bailey with the Iowa State Patrol told KTVO a pickup truck collided head-on with a passenger car. He said one of the drivers received minor injuries. The second driver involved was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City with serious injuries. Their names, ages and hometowns are not being released at this time.

    Bailey said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
