Update: Spur Pond victim identified

UPDATE: KTVO has learned the name of the victim in Tuesday afternoon's deadly crash at Spur Pond.

The victim has been identified as Dakota Davis, 26, of Kirksville.

Adair County Coroner told KTVO Davis appeared to be the driver of the SUV that drove into Spur Pond.

The name of the individual rescued from the vehicle before it sunk has not been released at this time.

An investigation is ongoing after an SUV drove into Spur Pond in Kirksville on Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 6:00 p.m., Kirksville police confirmed one person who was trapped in the vehicle died.

It took crews hours to recover that body from Spur Pond along Osteopathy Street.

Around 1:30 p.m., it was reported that a vehicle had driven into the pond.

Kirksville police told KTVO at the scene that one person was rescued from the SUV before it sank.

He or she was rushed by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center just down the street.

At this time, that person's condition is unknown.

Right now, police have not released the names of those involved in the tragedy.

KTVO witnessed the one victim being pulled from the water.

According to a press release from Kirksville Police, that person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the vehicle entered Spur Pond at the intersection of North Osteopathy and West Missouri Streets.

In addition to Kirksville and Adair County personnel, a dive team from Macon was called in to assist during this incident.

The vehicle was pulled from Spur Pond around 4:15 p.m.

Police say that this incident remains under investigation.
