An odd set of events in Ottumwa Wednesday evening sent one man to the hospital following two separate dirt bike crashes involving the same motorcycle.

Around 5:45 p.m., a call for assistance was requested at the Alpine Inn bar after patrons there said a man was “covered in blood” following some type of dirt bike accident.

Authorities made their way to the scene, but before they arrived, that man jumped back on his dirt bike and rode off.

Ottumwa police officers began searching the area for the man, but they could not locate him.

Then at 6:15 p.m., a call for assistance regarding a motorcycle accident was reported at the intersection of Albia Road and Winchester Drive.

When crews got there, they discovered an unconscious man who had been ejected from a dirt bike following a single-vehicle crash.

Paramedics worked quickly to load the man into an ambulance, where he later regained consciousness.

Although Ottumwa police were still conducting their investigation, they told KTVO it appeared the driver of that bike was impaired.

When asked if citations would be issued, the officer on the scene simply said that the accident was still under investigation.
