OPD: Woman tried to steal liquor, 4 laptops from Walmart
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
An Ottumwa woman with a history of theft convictions is accused of shoplifting again.
Briana Rebecca Wilkins, 22, was arrested at the Ottumwa Walmart Friday night, after police say she tried to steal at least $1,296.79 worth of merchandise last month.
Online court records show sometime between May 17 and May 23, Wilkins took several items off the shelves, including a bottle of rum, a bottle of soda, and three laptops.
Police say Wilkins removed security devices from the three laptops, and attempted to remove a fourth, but damaged the merchandise in the process.
Officers searched Wilkins belongings, and found stolen items, as well as several clear plastic baggies containing methamphetamine.
Wilkins is also accused of trying to bring methamphetamine into the Wapello County Jail Friday.
She is charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Introduction of Contraband into a Controlled Facility, a class D Felony, Second-Degree Theft, a Class D Felony, two counts of Removal of a Theft Detection Device and Third Degree Theft.
Wilkins has two previous theft convictions in 2015, and two more in 2016. If convicted on the new charges, she faces up to five years in prison. Wilkins is still in custody at the Wapello County Jail on a $12,000 bond.
