OFD: Sunday house fire is suspicious

Authorities responded to a house fire Sunday afternoon on South Street./KTVO.


Ottumwa firefighters are now saying the house fire KTVO told you about Sunday night is suspicious.

Crews responded to a report of smoke at a vacant house on South Street around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Craff told KTVO Monday morning, no one was hurt in the fire. He said the home was being renovated when it caught fire.

Most of the flames were contained in the attic, and crews had the fire under control within 15 minutes.

The property isn’t a total loss, but Craff estimated about $10,000 worth of damage.

Craff added that investigators are considering this fire to be suspicious, but he wouldn’t say why.


Around 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, Ottumwa authorities responded to a house fire on South Street.

Smoke was spotted coming out of the attic of the structure.

A neighbor was the one who reported the fire.

When KTVO arrived on scene, authorities said they were unable to tell us any other information.

The fire is currently under investigation.
