Ottumwa brawl leads to felony arrest
OTTUMWA, Iowa —
An Ottumwa man is facing a felony charge following a late-night brawl Tuesday night.
Police say 27-year-old Levi Bryan was walking with a group of five other people near Milner and Keota streets in Ottumwa around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Court records state that the group was seen carrying a baseball bat, chain, golf club, tire iron and brass knuckles.
Investigators say the people in this group appeared to be behaving violently in a public place.
Arresting officers were told that there had been a verbal argument, but the situation was resolved before they arrived.
Bryan, Christina Murray, 46, Dale Cosgrove, 41, Joseph Schmitz, 24, Lacey Schakel, 25, and Jesse Schakel, 24, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Authorities searched Bryan’s pockets and found drug paraphernalia. Court records show Bryan was also found in possession of marijuana inside the Wapello County Jail.
Bryan is now charged with Possession of Contraband, a Class D Felony, Possession of Marijuana, Carrying Weapons and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
He remains in custody at the Wapello County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
