Ottumwa church shares warmth locally and globally

Members at St. Paul Lutheran in Ottumwa hope to sew more than 60 quilts for families around the world.

Last year, the church donated about 30 quilts to Lutheran World Relief, which then distributed the blankets to Bogota, Colombia.

“So that was really thrilling to see our work here go to folks in Colombia, who really need that resource," said St. Paul Pastor Gloria Dovre.

The congregation will also donate its quilts to the Hope House in Ottumwa, which serves families recovering from substance abuse.

Anyone is welcome to help; starting Valentine’s Day, which also falls on Ash Wednesday this year, from 2 until 5 p.m.

This opportunity will continue each Wednesday for the next six weeks.
