Ottumwa felon gets more jail time for 3 hours of freedom

An Ottumwa, Iowa, felon bought himself more jail time this week for only three hours of freedom.

Authorities found Jordan Parnell, 26, at the Stardust Motel at around 10:30 a.m. Monday. He was arrested there and charged with escape.

According to online court documents, Parnell was in custody at Ottumwa Residential Correctional Facility when he found his way out through the men’s yard on Monday. Police say Parnell took off on the 7:30 a.m. Ottumwa Transit bus.

Parnell was doing time for a 2015 Forgery conviction out of Mahaska County.

Parnell is now in custody at the Wapello County Jail. He has pleaded not guilty to the additional charges.
