OPD confident it has a suspect tied to shooting

1029 West 2nd St./Beth Waldon

UPDATE:

Ottumwa police officers are confident they have a suspect tied to Thursday’s shooting.

Just after 1 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to 1029 West Second St., where a man had been shot with a handgun.

Officers arrived and located the victim, 61-year-old Clifford William Collett Sr. with a gunshot wound to his chest. Collett was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

KTVO spoke with a family member at the home on Second Street Thursday afternoon.

As far as he knows, Mr. Collett is OK. He declined to comment further.

Ottumwa Police Chief Tom McAndrew said the public is not in any danger.

"We think this was an isolated incident between subjects that probably knew each other,” McAndrew said. “We don't see any issues with public safety with this subject."

It’s unclear if or when any charges will be filed. McAndrew said investigators are still conducting interviews and reviewing evidence.
