Ottumwa announces road closures for this month, next

The Ottumwa Public Works Department says to be mindful of a few road closures this month and next.

One of the projects is underway this week on Sheridan Avenue. Crews are replacing a water main. While they're at it, they'll be making some major street repairs from Mary to Ferry.

Public Works Director Larry Seals says it's a long time coming. It took the city seven years to raise enough funds for this project.

Coming up next month, more street repairs downtown. Starting April 2, the intersection of Jefferson and Main streets will be closed for a month.

"So there will be some detour routes that people will have to use," Seals said. "Market Street of course will become busy."

The project downtown, which includes sanitary sewer and water main repairs, stretches from Jefferson Street to Vine Street.

Seals says these repairs are necessary every four decades.
