Ottumwa residents volunteer their Thanksgiving to serve food for others
OTTUMWA, IOWA —
Thursday, a group of Heartland residents gave up part of their Thanksgiving to serve up meals for others.
The Knights of Columbus in Ottumwa held its annual Thanksgiving dinner Thursday afternoon, feeding hundreds of local residents.
Thanksgiving Dinner Committee Member Mary Margaret Butler says people have devoted a lot of time to planning and cooking for Thanksgiving.
“We don’t really have people volunteer, people just come down. It just shows you how Ottumwa is, people just come down and help. So, it’s fun."
Many of the volunteers arrived at the Knights of Columbus facility as early as 8:30 Thursday morning to help deliver and prepare meals.
The organization hopes to feed over a thousand people.
