Ottumwa woman pleads guilty to hit-and-run

Morgan Houk, 24, of Ottumwa/Wapello County Sheriff's Office

An Ottumwa woman has pleaded guilty to a September 2017 hit-and-run.

On Sept. 3, Morgan Houk, 24, was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated, and Serious Injury by Vehicle, after police say she ran over a man who attempted to stop her, and then drove away. Witnesses at north Hy-Vee gas station that night told police Houk appeared to be drunk.

In a Wapello County courtroom Wednesday, Houk admitted that she kept driving, as the man held on to the vehicle.

Prosecutors said the victim suffered injuries to his pelvic region, and he was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment.

She pleaded guilty to Reckless Driving, Causing Serious Injury. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 31, 2018.
