Football players from Pekin High School turned a bad situation into a positive one.

About 25 players helped firefighters clean up vandalism at the Methodist Cemetery in Richland over the weekend.

Head Coach Brent Blakely told KTVO the project taught his players the importance of kindness and teamwork.

"It's just something I felt would be positive for the kids to experience and see, and if they're ever in that situation where they're thinking about making a poor decision like this, hopefully the experience they had will open their eyes, that it's probably not a good idea," Blakely said.

Each year, Blakely said the team gets involved in some form of community outreach. Last year, they helped a local fire department clean one of its fire trucks.
