Prosecutors move to restart drunk driving case against Alex Barr

Prosecutors have moved to restart a previous drunk driving case against the Ottuwma School Board V.P. (Wapello County Jail)

Alex Barr is likely to have twice the drunk driving trouble.

Last weekend, Barr, the vice president of the Ottumwa School Board, was arrested for OWI.

It was Barr's second arrest for drunk driving in less than a year.

Barr was also arrested in May 2017. He had entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with the state.

That agreement would have permitted the OWI charge to be dismissed if Barr had stayed out of trouble through August 2018.

An agreement prosecutors say Barr broke when he was arrested over the weekend.

Online court records show that they have asked the court to set a pretrial conference hearing. That would mean the case would proceed on a trial track.

The case stemming from Barr's recent arrest will also proceed.

He had pleaded not guilty in that case.

As KTVO reported on Wednesday, Barr's long history of drunk driving includes two arrests in Webster County Iowa for OWI.
