A northeast Missouri real estate agent was held at gunpoint with a machete against his throat Thursday afternoon.

It happened during a robbery around 4:15 p.m. at Wayman Realty in the 1400 block of North Green Street in Kirksville.

Owner Frank Wayman told KTVO exclusively that a black man came into his realty business with a gas can, saying he needed to get gasoline.

Wayman said the intruder then asked to use the restroom.

When the man came out of the restroom, he stuck a gun against Wayman's head and demanded to know the combination to the safe.

A second black man then entered and held a machete against Wayman's throat.

When the robbers couldn't get the safe open themselves, they made Wayman do it for them.

He told KTVO the men then stole more than $3,000 in cash plus two lock boxes containing personal items, including gold coins.

Wayman said the intruders made him and a friend, who walked in during the ordeal, lie on the floor in a back room of the business while they made their getaway.

At last check, multiple Kirksville police officers were trying to track down the two men, who are believed to be wearing dark-colored clothing.

It is unclear if they escaped on foot or in a vehicle.

Wayman was not injured during the crime.
