The Centerville woman accused of killing her husband now has an attorney.

Barbara Pasa, 45, will be represented by the Special Defense Unit.

That unit is part of the State Public Defender's office in Des Moines.

Judge Lucy Gamon made the appointment on Wednesday.

Pasa is charged with First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Arson in the death of her husband, Timothy Pasa, 50, of Centerville.

The charges stem from a May 5 house fire on South Park Avenue in Centerville. That blaze also sent a firefighter to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Pasa remains in custody on $1 million bond.

If Pasa were convicted of First-Degree Murder, she would face a mandatory life sentence.
