On Wednesday morning, the Ottumwa School District released a statement regarding a threat against the Ottumwa High School that was received on Tuesday.

Below is that statement released by Kim Hellige.

In an effort to be transparent to parents and community members, a student at Ottumwa High School made a threat against the school late yesterday that involved a weapon. The threat was reported to school authorities, who immediately notified law enforcement and an investigation began. The student is currently not in school, will face disciplinary action according to school policy, and may be charged.

Statement from Superintendent Nicole Kooiker:

"Whenever there is a threat made, we take the situation seriously and involve law enforcement in the process. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority and we are appreciative that when students hear or see something, they say something so action can be taken. We are grateful that everyone is safe and the situation has been addressed."
