Teen dies 4 days after suicide attempt at juvenile detention center

A northeast Missouri teen who attempted suicide last week at a local juvenile detention center has now died.

The incident happened April 11, 2018, at the Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center in Kirksville.

Multiple police cars, a couple of ambulances and the fire department all responded.

An official who spoke on condition of anonymity told KTVO Thursday the 16-year-old boy from Canton, Missouri, died Sunday morning at University Hospital in Columbia.

Officials say the boy was found unresponsive on the residential side of the facility, CPR was started at the scene.

He was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center and then transferred to University Hospital where he died Sunday.

An official told us the teen's organs were donated to people awaiting transplants.
