It was a scary late afternoon for some Heartland residents as a tornado touched down in southeast Iowa.

At 5:25 p.m., a trained weather spotter reported a tornado on the ground southwest of Chillicothe, Iowa.

It was on the ground just a few minutes in a rural area.

There were no reports of damage or injuries related to the twister.

That storm also passed through Monroe, Mahaska and Davis counties and headed toward Batavia.

Wapello County Emergency Management Coordinator Tim Richmond told KTVO the area hasn't seen any major storm damage. There was just a little bit of debris.

Jefferson County and the surrounding areas may see thunderstorms in the overnight hours as we head into Thursday.
