NEAR FAIRFIELD, Iowa — No one was injured after a tractor-trailer full of raw chicken caught on fire Wednesday afternoon in Jefferson County, Iowa.
Just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jefferson County Deputies responded to the fully-engulfed trailer near the intersection of Highway 34 and 213th Street.
The driver was headed east on Highway 34 when the fire started. He escaped unharmed.
The tractor was salvaged from the blaze. But the trailer and several pounds of chicken are a total loss.
A portion of the highway was still blocked to traffic by 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Crews are still waiting on a crane service to remove what's left of the trailer.
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Bart Richmond said a break or tire failure possibly sparked the flames.
