Trails council to expand Bloomfield walking space
BLOOMFIELD, Iowa —
Bloomfield is getting more outdoor walking space.
The Davis County Trails Council will be adding to the existing trail that stretches from the Mutchler Community Center on East Street to Bloomfield’s east side on Franklin Street.
The start of the project wrapped up last year. Phase two, which will take the trail to the McGowen Recreation and Wildlife Area, starts next spring.
When the trail is finished, it will be just over a mile long. Overall, the project will cost about $900,000.
Trails Council Treasurer Don Walton said the hope is to get more people outside to exercise.
"We think it'll be a really nice facility to have, to connect the McGowen recreation area, which in its own way, is a fantastic facility, it'll connect that facility to the recreation center here in town, which is located very close to the schools," Walton said.
The project is expected to come up at Thursday night's Bloomfield City Council meeting.
