Trial date firm for Heartland mother charged with starving infant
KEOSAUQUA, Iowa —
A Birmingham, Iowa, woman accused of starving her infant son to death is still set to go to trial before the end of the year.
Angel Poole, 24, was charged in March with child endangerment in the death Judah Wessels.
Poole was scheduled to be in court last Friday for a pre-trial conference.
That hearing was continued until December 1 so the defense could finish pre-trial discovery.
However, Judge Joel Yates decided to keep December 12 as the start date for the jury trial.
Judah Wessels weighed seven pounds when he was born in May of 2016.
Prosecutors alleged he weighed just five pounds and was severely malnourished when he died two months later.
Poole is currenlty free on bond.
If she is convicted as charged, Poole would face a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
