Michael Heady Jr., 62, is facing charges Arson and Assault on a Police Officer./KTVO

The trial of an Ottumwa man arrested after he allegedly committed arson and threatened police has been delayed.

The trial of Michael Heady, Jr., 62, was set to begin next month, but by agreement of attorneys for both sides, that trial has been rescheduled for January 9, 2018.

Heady is charged with First-Degree Arson and Assault on a Police Officer.

The charges stem from an incident in June 2016.

Officers were responding to reports of a fire and an armed man at an address on Waverly Street.

When officers arrived, they found Heady outside the burning home brandishing a weapon.

Police said Heady threatened the officers and ignored commands to put down his weapon.

Sgt. Noah Aljets and Officer Derek Shaw fired at Heady.

The subsequent investigation determined both officers acted appropriately.

Heady was hospitalized for several days while recovering from his injuries.
