During flu season, many of us turn to our medications to find a cure. However, one Heartland woman is offering a different solution, oils.

“I think we’ve got in the mindset of using our medication and our drugs and then when we think of plants as medicine, it’s scary," said Gypsy-Seeds owner Amanda Carnes.

Carnes is the founder of Gypsy- Seeds.

She helps people learn how to utilize essential oils to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Carnes says some of the best ways to fight against mucus and congestion is to use oils like thyme, lemon, and eucalyptus on your chest.

“A lot of the oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal. They have a lot of fighting agent properties.”

Essential oils can also be breathed in or used internally.

However, Carnes says you need to be careful if you decide to use certain oils in that way.

Oils can also be used for ADHD and to flesh out toxins in your body.

For Carnes, using essential oils has become apart of her daily routine.

“ I start in the morning. I apply different oils to the palms of my feet and the chest and like behind my ears.”

Some may be unfamiliar with this method to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but Carnes says we shouldn't be afraid to gravitate towards natural resources.

“ I believe in western medicine. I believe it saves live’s, but I think coming back to nature is an approach that should be taken first.”
