Volunteers spend Christmas morning feeding others

Volunteers helped prepare and serve food to Ottumwa residents at the Masonic Lodge Christmas day./KTVO.

Ottumwa residents showed up to the Masonic Lodge on Pennsylvania Avenue this afternoon for a free, hot meal.

77-year-old Alice Aszman has been spending the past 10 Christmases volunteering at the lodge.

She helps clean, serve and pack up the food. Aszman says doing this brings her joy.

“I love it, it’s wonderful, it’s interesting because being interested in what I do is very important and it’s very important to the people,” said Aszman.

The Masons provide this service as well as delivering meals to families in need every year.
