Snowy weather means slick and icy roads, but the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office has a few tips to help you avoid a car accident.

Sheriff Mark Miller told KTVO that in this weather, people should only go out if they absolutely have to, that will also give crews more time to clear the roads.

But, if you do have to drive somewhere, Miller says to slow down, keep a safe distance and be aware of your surroundings.

“People misinterpret the fact that they can get up to speed, but it’s the stopping that is the problem,” said Miller.

Heartland residents can expect to see the snow continue into the weekend.
