Winter returns to southeast Iowa
Ottumwa, Iowa —
Winter came back to the Heartland Monday afternoon.
Snow starting falling just before noon in the City of Bridges and picked up in intensity by mid-afternoon.
That meant evening commuters were faced with limited visibility and slick roads.
One driver ended up taking a scary roller coaster ride on Little Soap Creek Road south of Ottumwa.
The driver lost control and slid down a wooded embankment as they neared the intersection of Little Soap and Highway 63.
Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt in the accident.
Cities across southeast Iowa, including Ottumwa, declared snow emergencies.
The snow was expected to let up in the evening, before another potential round of snow Tuesday evening.
