New White House: President Trump details the top issues for his administration
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Donald Trump is the 45th President of the United States.
With that, comes a new Twitter handle (@POTUS) and website.
There, Trump has listed a number of issues he believes are of top importance to address as a country.
Here's what he has planned:
An America First Energy Plan
According to the new whitehouse.gov website, the first issue listed tackles energy.
"The Trump Administration is committed to energy policies that lower costs for hardworking Americans and maximize the use of American resources, freeing us from dependence on foreign oil," a statement reads.
Within the plan, deregulation including what is described as the elimination of "harmful and unnecessary policies such as the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule."
Trump's administration believes lifting the restrictions will increase wages by "more than $30 billion over the next 7 years."
"The Trump Administration will embrace the shale oil and gas revolution to bring jobs and prosperity to millions of Americans. We must take advantage of the estimated $50 trillion in untapped shale, oil, and natural gas reserves, especially those on federal lands that the American people own."
With that, the administration plans to use revenues to rebuild infrastructure.
Plans also include reviving the coal industry, boosing domestic energy production and achieving "energy independence from the OPEC cartel."
Trump said he will also dedicate time to responsible stewardship of the environment.
"Protecting clean air and clean water, conserving our natural habitats, and preserving our natural reserves and resources will remain a high priority. President Trump will refocus the EPA on its essential mission of protecting our air and water."
An America First Foreign Policy
American interests and national security are also a top priority.
The website lists "peace through strength" at the center of that.
"Defeating ISIS and other radical Islamic terror groups will be our highest priority. To defeat and destroy these groups, we will pursue aggressive joint and coalition military operations when necessary. In addition, the Trump Administration will work with international partners to cut off funding for terrorist groups, to expand intelligence sharing, and to engage in cyberwarfare to disrupt and disable propaganda and recruiting."
Rebuilding the military and trade deals, which are also listed as being a crucial part of the plan.
Bringing Back Jobs and Growth
Recalling the 2008 recession, Trump's next top policy plan includes bringing back jobs, and stimulating those available in manufacturing.
"The plan starts with pro-growth tax reform to help American workers and businesses keep more of their hard-earned dollars. The President’s plan will lower rates for Americans in every tax bracket, simplify the tax code, and reduce the U.S. corporate tax rate, which is one of the highest in the world."
Promising to fix an "outdated"tax code, and getting Washington out of the way of small business, Trump sites his accumen as an entrepreneur.
His plan is to create 25 million new jobs.
Making Our Military Strong Again
Trump also plans to rebuild the military, promising to help veterans "get the care they deserve."
The president plans to submit a new budget that would outline this plan to Congress.
Included in that budget:
- State-of-the-art missile defense system "to protect against missile-based attacks from states like Iran and North Korea."
- Develop defensive and offensive cyber capabilities at our U.S. Cyber Command, and recruit the best and brightest Americans to serve in this crucial area.
- Ensure that we have the best medical care, education and support for our military service members and their families – both when they serve, and when they return to civilian life.
Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community
The new administration also promises to give every American the opportunity to live in a safe community.
Describing it as a "law and order administration," Trump plans to support law enforcement, and reduce violent crime.
"Our country needs more law enforcement, more community engagement, and more effective policing."
The border wall is also promised, "to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities. He is dedicated to enforcing our border laws, ending sanctuary cities, and stemming the tide of lawlessness associated with illegal immigration."
"Supporting law enforcement also means deporting illegal aliens with violent criminal records who have remained within our borders."
Trade Deals Working For All Americans
In the last of the six listed top issues, Trump promises to "put American workers and businesses first when it comes to trade."
"This strategy starts by withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and making certain that any new trade deals are in the interests of American workers. President Trump is committed to renegotiating NAFTA. If our partners refuse a renegotiation that gives American workers a fair deal, then the President will give notice of the United States’ intent to withdraw from NAFTA."
That plan includes reworking what is described as failed trade deals, crack down on nations that violate trade agreements, directing the Commerce Secretary to flag those violations, and "end these abuses."
