OTTUMWA – Steven D. Lasley, 69, of Burlington, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away May 6, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born February 1, 1949 in Pulaski to H. Lavern and Opal D. White Lasley. He married Janet McSparen April 21, 1969 in Queen City, MO.

A graduate of Hedrick High School in 1967, he served in the U.S. Army where he proudly served for 20 years. He served in Vietnam and retired as Sergeant. He had worked at Excel for 10 years and at Pella Corporation for 15 years, retiring in 2015.

Steve was a member of East End Pentecostal Church of God and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

He loved his Lord, his family and adored his great grandchildren. Until we meet again my love, this is not goodbye, just see you later.

Surviving is his wife, Janet; a daughter, Tammy (Shawn) Cassady of Ottumwa; a son, Steven L. Lasley of Burlington; three grandchildren, Lynissa Lasley, Shania (Paul) Cassady Horn and Brandon Cassady; four great- grandchildren, Kacelyn, Kaleb and Kaelah Horn and Athena Lasley-Nelson; several nieces and nephews and his church family.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jessop and Verna Rudd and a niece, Darlene Purvis.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor David Parramore officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cremation will follow the services.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East End Pentecostal Church of God or donor’s choice.
