Wendy LeAnn Courtney, 41, of Eldon, IA died May 26, 2018 as the result of an auto accident in Jefferson County, IA.

She was born June 10, 1976 in Ottumwa, IA to Leonard Oren and Margaret Alvina “Marge” Dawson Courtney. She married Dave Mefford and they later divorced.

Wendy was a high school graduate from Novinger, MO where she played baseball and softball. She attended Indian Hills Community College and Truman State University.

Wendy drove a tilt bed for her father in Courtney Car Crushing. She was a wonderful waitress and loved serving people and was presently employed at Southfork in Bloomfield, IA.

Wendy attended People’s Church in Batavia, IA. She was a rock hunter and rock collector, enjoying God’s beauty. She found joy in gifting everyone in her life with Disciple’s Cross necklaces.

Surviving are her 4 sons, Drake, Dalton, Devon and Dylan Mefford; step-children, Brooke, Beth, Brock Hamilton and Hillary Gunnels; her mother, Marge Courtney of Eldon; her father, Leonard (Peggy) Courtney of Ottumwa; grandmother, Helen Dawson of Unionville, MO; 3 siblings, Leon Courtney, Brandi Luke and David Johnson all of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, George and Jeanette Courtney and Bob Dawson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Pastor Jack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to the family to benefit her sons.
