2014 Truman State Football National Signing Day

It wasNational Letter of Intent day for Truman State Football.

The 2014 signing class is comprised of more than 20 players from Missouri, Illinois, Texas and Iowa.


Tyler Baker (6-2; 230 lbs)

Liberty HS/Liberty, Mo.


Baker's Bluejays posted a 7-4 record in Missouri Class 6 as a senior and he was an all-conference and all-district performerâ?¦a three-time Academic All-State selection.

Keenan Borders (6-1; 190 lbs)

Parkway South HS/St. Louis, Mo.

Defensive Back (Highlight Video)

Borders notched all-conference defensive back honors following his senior season in which he recorded 77 tackles and one interception for the Parkway South Patriotsâ?¦added 21 catches for 252 yards and two scores offensivelyâ?¦a three-year varsity starter in football and a two-year starter heading into track season.

Jordan Brown (5-9; 175 lbs)

Kirkwood HS/St. Louis, Mo.

Brown was a member of the Pioneers' 2012 Missouri State championship team and played on both sides of the ball his senior season as Kirkwood posted a 9-2 overall recordâ?¦had 23 rushes for 82 yards and three scores and three receptions for 19 yards and a touchdownâ?¦defensively, had 30 tackles with four for loss and two fumble recoveriesâ?¦a two-time all-conference selection and earned all-district accolades following senior seasonâ?¦a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner on the Pioneers' basketball team.

Landon Carney (6-5; 290 lbs)

Pleasant Valley HS/Bettendorf, Iowa

Carney was named a first-team elite All-State his senior season while helping the Spartans to an 11-1 record in Iowa Class 4 before bowing out of the playoffs to Bettendorf in the quarterfinalsâ?¦named second team all-state following junior season and was twice a first team all-conference academic memberâ?¦also earned all-conference honors as a wrestler and an accomplished swimmerâ?¦brother Logan is also a member of the Bulldog football team.

Arber Emroski (6-1; 195 lbs)

Emroski was a first team all-conference and all-county during his senior season in which his Trojans finished 12-1 falling in the IHSA Class 1 state championship gameâ?¦and as a junior earned all-county honorable mention as his team won the state titleâ?¦a member of the National Honor Society and holds office on the Student Council.

Tanner Hageman (6-4; 295 lbs)

Hageman earned Missouri Football Coaches Association Class 5 All-State honors and was a first-team all-Suburban South winner as an anchor on the offensive lineâ?¦played for Bulldog alum Mike Bellers (1985-87)â?¦a three year letterwinner in basketball and a two year letterwinner for trackâ?¦named Academic All-State and a National Honor Society member.

Riley Hammel (5-11; 200 lbs)

Fairfield HS/Fairfield, Iowa

Hammel was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner for the Mules that finished 8-2 last season in Iowa's Class 2â?¦named team captain and was the Special Teams Player of the Yearâ?¦earned all-district Academic teamâ?¦has competed in swimming and trackâ?¦member of the National Honor Society.

JD Hurd II (5-10; 170 lbs)

Hurd was a four-year letterwinners for the War Eagles with the team finishing 7-4 in Class 5A his senior seasonâ?¦was named District 14 honorable mentionâ?¦earned defensive back MVP honors at the Next Level Athlete South Houston Camp sponsored by Fox Sports Southwestâ?¦on the track, was named the most outstanding runner in 2013 and broke school records in the 110 meter hurdlesâ?¦was an AAU Junior Olympic Qualifier in the 400m hurdles at 56.47â?¦named an Oak Ridge High School Academic Letterman.

Inman was a unanimous first-team Class 4A District 29 selection for the Panthers after finishing the season 6-5â?¦as a powerlifter, was a two-time regional qualifier and broke the school bench press record with a lift of 460 poundsâ?¦was an area qualifier in both the Shot Put and Discus.

Kevin Jensen II (6-0; 208 lbs)

Jensen was an all-East Suburban conference honoree his senior season and all-area pick in both his junior and senior campaignsâ?¦member of the Hilltoppers team that went 10-2 in Illinois Class 5 before bowing out in the state quarterfinals 22-21â?¦competes in wrestling, track, swimming and basketballâ?¦nominated for National Honor Society.

Taylor Kliethermes (Klee-ther-mess) (6-3; 235 lbs)

Kliethermes twice was named all-district and all-conference for the Indians after helping the Hallsville team to a 6-4 record in Missouri Class 2 as a seniorâ?¦was an Academic All-State honoreeâ?¦earned all-conference and all-district accolades as a member of the track team.

D'Anthony Knight (6-0; 185 lbs)

Edwardsville HS/Edwardsville, Ill.

Knight's Tigers finished the season 12-1, falling in the Illinois Class 7 semifinals to eventual champion Mount Carmelâ?¦.was third on the team in scoring with nine touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversionsâ?¦had 53 rushes for 256 yards and four catches for 24â?¦had 49 total tackles, including five for loss and four interceptionsâ?¦named first team all-Southwestern Conference while helping the team to the league titleâ?¦was a first team all-conference track athlete.

Justin Mikeworth (5-11; 230 lbs)

Mikeworth set the school record for tackles with a loss with 45 as he had 26 as a senior and 146 total tackles leading the Trojan defense to two Illinois Class 1 title gamesâ?¦the Trojans won the title in 2012 but were defeated in 2013 to finish 12-1â?¦was a three-time all-county first team selectionâ?¦a two-time all-state pick, with first team honors as a senior and two-time team defensive most valuable playerâ?¦broke school mark in the bench press at 400 poundsâ?¦was also named a first team all-conference kickerâ?¦two time academic all-state, senior class president, National Honor Society member and vice-president of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD).

Ian Neithercut (5-9; 180 lbs)

Neithercut earned first-team Class 4A District 9 honors as a corner back, making 71 tackles with one interception and four pass break-upsâ?¦was an all-district and all-county player both sophomore and junior seasons and named a Player of the Week by the Dallas Morning Newsâ?¦Titans won the District 9 championship with a 9-3 record while allowing just 134.7 yards per game with nine interceptions and 36 team sacks...a two-time academic all-district selection.

Mitch Nichols (5-11; 180 lbs)

Nichols earned Missouri Football Coaches and Missouri Sportswriters and Broadcasters all-state honors as a running back as well as NCMC all-conference accolades and all-district mentionsâ?¦posted the fourth highest single-game rushing yards in school history with 365 yards while finishing his Pirate career with 2,946 rushing, 400 receiving and 40 career touchdownsâ?¦broke another school record with a 95 yard kickoff return and had eight PATs in a gameâ?¦won the 2012 Pirate of the Year Awardâ?¦basketball and track athleteâ?¦winning a track conference championship in the 4x100 and all-district in the same event as a juniorâ?¦member of the National Honor Society and was a KHQA Student-Athlete of the Week.

Blake Riley (5-9; 180 lbs)

Riley earned first team all-conference defensive back and second team all-NCMC accolades as a running back while also being named to the All-District team in both positionsâ?¦broke school record for most points in a game with 30 and was the JAMCO and KRES Player of the Weekâ?¦earned second team all-conference and all-district as a junior for a defensive back and was the team defensive MVP as a sophomore for the Tigersâ?¦member of the track team that claimed the 2013 District championships and was all-conference and all-district in the 4x200â?¦member of the Kirksville High School Honor Roll.

Scheeler was a two-year starter for the Dunlap Eagles and was twice named to the Mid-Illini all-conference teamâ?¦was the Peoria Journal-Star area large school sacks leader with 12 his senior season and 21 tackles for lossâ?¦a 2013 team captain and all-Peoria area honorable mention choice.

Jacob Sherrill (6-0; 190 lbs)

Sherrill served as a defensive captain for the Spartans from 2011-2013 and was an all-county selection as a juniorâ?¦recorded the most tackles in a game for the team with 18â?¦on the track team, was a regional qualifier and district champion on the 4x400 relay team in 2012â?¦an all-state Academic team honoree and nominated for the National Honor Society.

Nicholas Verbeck (6-3; 285 lbs)

Geneseo HS/Geneseo, Ill.

Verbeck was a part of the Maple Leafs run to the Northern Illinois Big 12 championship and a trip to the Illinois Class 4 title game as a seniorâ?¦earned all-state honorable mention honors as well as NIB12 West Defensive player of the year and all-league accoladesâ?¦had 77 tackles on defense while on offense, the team rushed for 4000 yardsâ?¦All-Metro Lineman both junior and senior seasons and was named the Quad City Dispatch Pacesetterâ?¦competed in track and wrestling (a total of 10 varsity letters through signing day) earning all-league and all-metro honors as a heavyweight with team placing second at stateâ?¦a National Honor Society member and an All-Conference Academic Honorable mention.

Ben Wellman (5-11; 200 lbs)

Wellman is an accomplished two-way player for Tri-Center High Schoolâ?¦broke the Iowa Class 1 and school single-game rushing record with 484 yards in a game and had a school-best 2041 yards in a season an 3664 career rushing yardsâ?¦broke the school tackle record with 173 solo and 249 assisted stops and was Southwest Iowa Player of the Yearâ?¦was a first team all-state running back and a third team all-state linebackerâ?¦Offensive Player of the Year in 1A District 8â?¦as a junior earned multiple all-state and all-district accoladesâ?¦has a career wrestling record of 156-24 and qualified for the Drake Relays in the 4x100 meter relayâ?¦a National Honor Society member as well as an All-State Academic team selection.

Adam Yancey (6-0; 195 lbs)

Eureka HS/Eureka, Mo.

Running Back

Yancey was a first team all-state, all-conference and all-district running back last season for the Wildcatsâ?¦had 189 rushes for 1310 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior leading Eureka to an 11-2 record and a berth in the semifinals of the Missouri Class 6 tournamentâ?¦the Wildcats lost to the eventual state championsâ?¦a two year starter and three year letterwinner in football while also lettering in track, wrestling and baseballâ?¦placed at state twice in the 4x400 and once in the 4x200 relayâ?¦member of the National Honor Societyâ?¦uncle Mike played for the Bulldogs from 1980-83 and also wrestled and his cousin Matt, a Bulldog wrestler.

Kade Young (6-1; 225 lbs)

Young recorded 144 tackles, including 24 for loss as the Wildcats finished 11-1 in Class 4 District 30â?¦he set a school record with 23 tackles in a single game and finished his career with 39 tackles for lossâ?¦a 2013 first team all-state pick as a linebacker and was an all-south Texas defensive most valuable playerâ?¦as a junior, earned first team all-district and second team all-south Texas mentions while being named to the honorable mention all-state team by Texas Sportswritersâ?¦served as National Honor Society President.

Schroeder was selected to play in the National Underclassmen Combine All-American game as a high school seniorâ?¦his team went 11-2 falling 26-21 in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletics Association Division III title gameâ?¦was an all-state and all-conference quarterback after guiding Southlake Christian to a school record 474 points (37.7/game) in 2012 while throwing for 3,587 yards and 32 touchdownsâ?¦had a completion percentage of over 66%...a three-year varsity starter, three-time all-conference honoree and two-time all-state selectionâ?¦was a member of the Beta Clubâ?¦received the Congressional Award Gold Medal for outstanding youth service volunteering over 400 hours and co-starting Ghana Rock, which raised over $150,000 to help orphaned children in Ghana.

The 2014 Truman Bulldogs finished with a 7-4 record and were 5-2 in their first season in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Head Coach Gregg Nesbitt enters his fifth season at the helm of his alma mater.
