Truman State 2018 volleyball schedule is tougher than a dollar steak


Head coach, Ben Briney, and the Truman State University volleyball program unveiled their schedule for the fall of 2018 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs' slate features matchups against the defending national runner-up, Florida Southern (30-7 in 2017), Arkansas Tech (35-1) and long time MIAA rival, Central Missouri (25-8).

All in all, the calendar features 31 total games, 21 within the Midwest Region, 18 against Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) foes, and 13 non-conference affairs.

Those 10 out-of-region showdowns will pit the Bulldogs against the MIAA (four matches), Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (two), Sunshine State Conference (one), Great American Conference (one), Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (one), and the Heartland Conference (one).

The Purple and White will open up on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25 at Central Missouri's tournament with four games in two days against Florida Southern, Central Missouri, Missouri Southern State, and Arkansas Tech.

They will then travel to Salt Lake City, Utah the following Friday/Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 to face Minnesota State, Fort Lewis, Westminster, and Lubbock Christian.

After that, the 18 GLVC dates will sandwich Missouri Western State at home on Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Regional Crossover on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 13-14 and a trip to Lindenwood on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Within the GLVC schedule itself, Truman is on the road for Lewis, Indianapolis, Southern Indiana, Bellarmine, Quincy, Rockhurst, William Jewell, Missouri S&T, and Drury.

The nine home days for league play will be vs. William Jewell, Quincy, Missouri-St. Louis, Maryville, Illinois Springfield, McKendree, Rockhurst, Indianapolis, and Lewis.

Postseason play begins with the GLVC Tournament on Nov. 8-10 followed by the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 15-17 and the NCAA Elite Eight on Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
