Truman's Sam Reeves headed to the NCAA Division II Wrestling championships

The ultimate goal or goals of any collegiate wrestler is to either win a national championship or earn all-America honors.

Truman's Sam Reeves will have that opportunity when he takes to the mats on Friday to compete in the NCAA Division II Wrestling championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Reeves (16-8) will take on the top ranked wrestler in Division II at 197-pounds in Shippensburg (Pa.) Evan Ramos (26-2) in the first round match. Ramos earned All-America honors and finished fifth last season.

Of the eight All-American's at 197 in last year's event, five return with Ashland's Luke Cramer the highest placer returning at third. Morgan Smith (Simon Fraser), Ramos, Matt Rudy (Limestone) and Matt Blome (Minnesota State) are the other returning All-Americans.

Reeves will be making his first trip to the national meet and first by a Bulldog since 2013. He started the year earning first-team all-Great Lakes Valley Conference football honors and coming within a half sack of the Truman single season sack record with 11.5.

He transitioned to wrestling in late November where he amassed 16 wins and placed fourth at the Central regional last weekend.
